Poetry Pleases! said...

Dear Jane

Your 'Camper Van Blues' arrived yesterday and I swallowed it in one delicious draught. In the first section I was right there with you in your camper van - cramped but cosy! Part two was a tour de force but the section I enjoyed even more was Part three which contained more gems than a jeweller's. Poems that leapt out at me were English Rose, Flood at Boscastle, After Bluebeard, Safe annd Pond. Your poetic style is totally different from mine and reminds me of my father's. It's funny how one's poetic style is a kind of given and surprisingly hard to change. I believe that poets are born rather than made and there is no doubt that you are a born poet. I'm very surprised that your book didn't win a plethora of prizes. It should have. I voted for it (via my wife) in the Salt 'best book' survey. I have also ordered Katy Evans Bush's 'Me And The Dead' from Amazon which I am greatly looking forward to reading as well.

Love from Simon

That's very kind of you, Simon. And I'm extremely pleased that you enjoyed the book. I'm on a prose kick at the moment, but will return to poetry late next month, I imagine. Swings and roundabouts!

Best, Jane
