Good old Guardian Unlimited. Last bastion of the terminally loquacious. Last night I was a bit ... well, I had to come offline for a while, and that's as serious as it gets ... but now, I'm rather amused by it all.

The whole affair reminds me of that great line I'm always quoting from the Birdcage (modern film version with Robin Williams): 'It's like riding a psychotic horse toward a burning stable!'

Happy days.Jane Hollandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15590668593487445482noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16608180.post-40029910910154701152008-04-29T18:32:00.000+01:002008-04-29T18:32:00.000+01:00Christ! They were looking for some kind of "depth" in what is obviously an entertainment, a performance poem, a comic exuberance. It's like trying to eat a full meal using only ice-cream. Or maybe apple pie & custard - it's not that light!

It's not the best poem in Boudicca & Co, but it's fun and light and enjoyable. I take Billy Mill's point about there being other ways of doing performance; but again that's making a serious piece out of something that ain't intended to be serious.Steven Walinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09843948765720382682noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16608180.post-23655865947249919482008-04-29T10:50:00.000+01:002008-04-29T10:50:00.000+01:00fmk, the new place is friendly and intimate, and w...fmk, the new place is friendly and intimate, and we are very pleased to have got it.

Acceptable venues for live poetry in Coventry which also serve alcohol are few and far between, you know what I'm saying? ;)

Bo, I know. What can I tell you? I said elsewhere that the Guardian Unlimited is like a tank full of crocodiles ... or whatever it was I said. It can be very painful at times. But c'est la vie. Besides, you know my chart, you know my basic disposition. Home from home, really.
